Equality impact assessment training

Most equality impact assessments are written after the decision has been made. This session is about doing them early enough to change something, and writing them so they stand up.

What the session covers

Shaped around your organisation, but typically:

  • What an equality impact assessment is for, and what it is not
  • How it relates to the public sector equality duty and due regard
  • When to do one, and the importance of doing it early enough to change something
  • Working through a real example from your own organisation
  • Finding and using evidence, including when your data is incomplete
  • Writing it up so it stands up to scrutiny, and turning findings into action

What is included

Every booking includes the following as standard:

  • A scoping conversation beforehand, so the session fits your organisation and your people
  • The session itself, delivered online or in person
  • Slides and any handouts used on the day
  • A practical takeaway so people leave with something they can act on
  • Time for questions and discussion, with an option to gather questions anonymously in advance
  • Accessibility considered throughout, including captions online and materials in advance on request

What your organisation gets from it

  • Assessments that influence decisions rather than being completed afterwards to tick a box
  • Colleagues who are confident enough to do them without escalating every one
  • A consistent standard across teams, so quality does not depend on who happened to write it
  • Documentation that would withstand challenge or scrutiny

Who it is for

  • Policy writers and project leads managing change
  • EDI, HR and governance colleagues
  • Managers whose decisions affect staff, service users or the public
  • Anyone signing off assessments who needs to know what good looks like

Formats

This training can be delivered as:

  • Lunch and learn, a short session that fits into a working day
  • Half day workshop, the most commonly booked format
  • Full day workshop, where people work through the material in depth
  • A programme or series, for change that needs more than one session
  • Train the trainer, so your own people can deliver it afterwards
  • Online or in person, across the UK

Works best as a half day with a real example from your organisation. Get in touch for a clear figure.
